Gluten-Free Chocolate Waffles

Over the years, I have discovered that breakfast can be both healthy and delicious, especially with my Gluten-Free Chocolate Waffles. These waffles are not only easy to make, but they also satisfy my sweet tooth without any gluten. Whether you’re on a gluten-free diet or just want to indulge in a chocolate treat, this recipe is a perfect fit. Here’s how you can whip up these delightful waffles in no time!

To start, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup of gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar (you can use coconut sugar for a healthier option)
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter or a dairy-free alternative (like coconut oil)
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

Now that you have your ingredients ready, let’s move to the preparation. First, I recommend preheating your waffle iron while I mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. You’ll want to combine the gluten-free flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt thoroughly. This ensures that the baking powder is evenly distributed, giving your waffles the perfect rise.

Next, in a separate bowl, I whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. It’s important to mix these well so that they blend into a smooth mixture. Once that’s done, I pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until everything is just combined. Be cautious not to overmix, as this can lead to dense waffles.

When the waffle iron is ready, I lightly grease it with a bit of cooking spray or additional melted butter. Then, I ladle the batter onto the iron, typically about ½ to ¾ cup, depending on your waffle maker’s size. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle maker’s instructions, usually around 5 minutes. The aroma of chocolate will fill your kitchen during this time!

Once the waffles are done, they should be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. You can serve them warm with your favorite toppings. I love to add fresh fruits, a drizzle of maple syrup, or even a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat. You can also sprinkle some chocolate chips on top as they come out hot for added decadence.
