Introduction

If you’re on the hunt for the ultimate comfort food slider, look no further. These Melty Chicken Mozzarella Sliders with Garlic Butter are layered with juicy marinara-coated chicken and gooey mozzarella, all wrapped in soft buns and brushed with a savory garlic butter glaze. Whether it’s game day, a casual get-together, or an easy weeknight dinner, this recipe delivers big on flavor with minimal fuss.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • 🧄 Rich, buttery garlic topping that soaks into every bite
  • 🧀 Melty mozzarella cheese for gooey, cheesy goodness
  • ⏱️ Quick oven-bake makes them perfect for busy nights
  • 🎉 Crowd-pleasing and totally customizable

Ingredients

  • 12 slider buns
  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Ingredient Notes & Swaps

  • Chicken: Rotisserie chicken is a great shortcut, but leftover grilled or baked chicken works too.
  • Marinara: Use your favorite jarred sauce or homemade — the richer, the better!
  • Mozzarella: Pre-shredded is convenient, but fresh mozzarella slices give an extra gooey melt.
  • Butter: Salted or unsalted is fine — just adjust added salt accordingly.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the slider buns horizontally and lay the bottom halves on a baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, mix the shredded chicken with marinara sauce until fully coated.
  4. Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the bottom buns.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the chicken layer.
  6. Place the top halves of the buns on the sliders.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  8. Add minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let it simmer for 1–2 minutes.
  9. Brush the garlic butter generously over the tops of the buns.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes.
  11. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes, until tops are golden and cheese is melted.
  12. Cool slightly before serving — then dig in!

Tips for Success

  • Use a serrated knife to cut the sliders cleanly without squishing the filling.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment paper for easier cleanup.
  • Brush the garlic butter while it’s hot so it soaks in beautifully.
  • Add red pepper flakes to the butter if you like a spicy kick.

Serving Suggestions & Pairings

These sliders are hearty on their own, but here are some killer pairings:

  • A big bowl of Caesar salad
  • Garlic Parmesan fries or tater tots
  • A cold, fruity drink like Raspberry Lemonade Slush

Storage, Freezing & Reheating Tips

  • Store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze: Wrap individually and freeze for up to 1 month. Thaw before reheating.
  • Reheat: Warm in the oven at 350°F for 8–10 minutes or until heated through.

FAQs

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! Assemble everything except the butter brushing and baking. Cover and refrigerate, then brush and bake when ready.

Can I use different cheese?

Definitely. Provolone, fontina, or a mozzarella-cheddar blend all work great here.

Are these spicy?

Not at all — but you can add red pepper flakes or a drizzle of hot sauce to spice things up!

The instructions don’t mention putting cheese on top of the sliders, but the picture shows cheese on them. Can you mention when to add the cheese? 🙂

I noticed the sam. There’s clearly no cheese shown on top of the chicken layer in the photo; only on top of the buns. I’ve made lots of variations of sliders and the instructions for this recipe make more sense than the depicted photo. It sounds good, though, so I’m going to try it as instructed, with the cheese on top of the chicken, and the garlic butter sauce over the top of the buns. I see conflicting recipes/photos a lot in submitted recipes.
