This Turkey Avocado Club Is the Toasty, Tangy Sandwich I Crave on Repeat

There’s a time and place for a simple sandwich—and then there are days when only a layered, golden-crisp, flavor-stacked beauty like this Turkey Avocado Club will do. It’s warm, melty, smoky, and creamy all at once, thanks to the combo of smoked turkey, gouda, crispy bacon, and smashed avocado. The spicy-sweet sriracha sauce ties everything together with just the right kick, making this one of my absolute favorite ways to upgrade lunch.

This sandwich comes together quickly in one pan, and while it feels fancy, it’s easy enough for any day of the week. It’s the kind of lunch you pause to appreciate, bite by bite—crispy sourdough on the outside, with layers of savory, spicy, and creamy goodness inside.

Let me walk you through how I make it and why every part of this sandwich pulls its weight.

Why This Sandwich Works So Well

This isn’t your average turkey club—it’s got real texture and flavor built into every layer. Here’s why I love it:

  • Golden toasted sourdough for that buttery, crisp bite
  • Melted smoked gouda adds depth and creaminess
  • Heated smoked turkey makes it extra savory and satisfying
  • Crispy bacon brings crunch and salt
  • Smashed avocado + sriracha sauce for creamy heat and balance

It’s a full-on flavor experience in handheld form—and it only takes a few minutes to make.

Ingredients You’ll Need

(Serves 1 | Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 5–7 mins)

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 4 slices smoked turkey breast
  • 1 slice cooked bacon (or 2 for extra crunch)
  • 1 slice smoked gouda cheese
  • 2 teaspoons spicy-sweet sriracha sauce
  • ⅓ avocado, smashed
  • Optional: lettuce or tomato slices if you want to go more classic

How I Make My Turkey Avocado Club

Step 1: Toast the Bread in Butter

I heat a medium skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Then I lay both slices of sourdough into the pan and press gently so they soak up that buttery goodness. This gives you a golden crust on both sides and helps everything stay together once assembled.

Step 2: Layer the Cheese and Heat the Turkey

While the bread is toasting, I place the slice of smoked gouda on the bottom slice. If needed, I break it in half so it fits the bread.

In the empty space beside the bread, I add the turkey slices and let them warm for about 30 seconds per side. This gives the turkey a little sear and brings out its smoky flavor.

Once the turkey is heated through, I pile it right on top of the cheese so the warmth starts to melt it.

Step 3: Assemble the Layers

I remove the bread from the pan once it’s golden brown and crispy on the outside.

On top of the turkey, I add a slice of cooked bacon (you can break it into pieces if you want even coverage).

Then I spread the spicy-sweet sriracha sauce on the top slice of bread, followed by the smashed avocado. I like to use a fork to mash the avocado just enough to spread easily, but not so much that it turns to paste.

Finally, I bring it all together—turkey, cheese, bacon, sriracha, avocado, and toast—in a glorious sandwich stack.

My Favorite Tips and Variations

  • Use thick-sliced sourdough: It holds up to the fillings and gets perfectly crispy.
  • Swap the cheese: Smoked provolone or sharp white cheddar also work beautifully.
  • Make it extra spicy: Add pickled jalapeños or a few dashes of hot sauce to the sriracha.
  • Add greens: A handful of arugula or baby spinach adds a nice peppery bite.
  • No bacon? Turkey bacon or even crispy pancetta will do the trick.

How I Serve It

This Turkey Avocado Club is satisfying all on its own, but I love serving it with:

  • Kettle chips or sweet potato fries on the side
  • A light salad with lemon vinaigrette
  • A pickle spear for that classic deli-style crunch
  • Iced tea or sparkling water with a citrus wedge to cut the richness

If I’m really treating myself, I pair it with a creamy tomato soup for dipping.

FAQs From My Kitchen

Q: Can I make this ahead of time?
A: It’s best served fresh so the bread stays crisp and the avocado doesn’t brown. But you can prep the turkey, bacon, and sauce in advance to speed things up.

Q: What if I don’t like spicy food?
A: Swap the sriracha for honey mustard or even plain mayo for a milder flavor.

Q: Can I make this on a panini press or griddle?
A: Absolutely. Just assemble the full sandwich and press until crispy and melty.

Q: What’s the best way to smash avocado?
A: Use a fork and mash with a pinch of salt and squeeze of lemon or lime juice for flavor and freshness.

Why This Sandwich Deserves a Spot in Your Lunch Lineup

This Turkey Avocado Club is everything I want in a sandwich—crunchy, creamy, smoky, and a little spicy. It’s a perfect midday pick-me-up, great for easy dinners, and even fancy enough to serve at brunch. Every layer adds something different, but they all work together to make one seriously satisfying bite.

Once you try it, I promise it’ll become one of those recipes you come back to again and again.
