Spinach and Cheese Stuffed Breadsticks

You can elevate your snacking game with these delicious Spinach and Cheese Stuffed Breadsticks. They’re ideal for a family movie night, a cozy dinner party, or even for meal prep for the week ahead. In this tutorial, I’ll share with you how I make these delightful breadsticks, packed with flavor and nutrition. So, let’s get started!

First, gather your ingredients:

  • 1 pound of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, for egg wash (optional)

With your ingredients ready, it’s time to prepare the filling. I usually start by heating a pan over medium heat and adding a bit of olive oil. Once the oil is warm, I add the chopped spinach and let it wilt. This only takes a couple of minutes. After that, I transfer the spinach to a bowl to cool down slightly.

Next, I mix in the ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan cheese to the bowl with the spinach. I also add in the garlic powder, onion powder, and season with salt and pepper. I stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and well combined. This cheesy filling is the star of the breadsticks, adding creaminess and flavor.

Now that the filling is ready, I turn my attention to the pizza dough. I roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Then, I cut the dough into strips, approximately 2 inches wide. Each strip will hold the stuffing, so I don’t want them to be too thin.

On one end of each strip, I place a generous amount of the spinach and cheese filling—about a tablespoon. I fold over the other side of the strip to create a pocket and gently press the edges to seal. If you’re feeling fancy, you can use a fork to crimp the edges, creating a nice design and ensuring a tight seal.

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). While it’s heating up, I place the stuffed breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. For a nice golden finish, I brush the tops with an egg wash made from the beaten egg (optional) and sprinkle some extra cheese on top for good measure.

Once the oven is ready, I bake my breadsticks for about 15-20 minutes or until they turn a lovely golden brown. The aroma fills the kitchen, and I can hardly wait to dive in!

After taking them out of the oven, I let them cool for a few minutes before serving. These Spinach and Cheese Stuffed Breadsticks are excellent on their own but even better when paired with marinara or ranch dressing for dipping.

I hope you enjoy making these as much as I do! They’re a delightful blend of textures and flavors that both kids and adults will love.
